I am a student from Paderborn who is working in the Bolton Libraries, Archives and Museum for a week to gain work experience abroad. I am here to inform you about my experience working there and events that take place in the Libraries, Archives and Museum.
Tuesday, the 13th of March 2018:
On Tuesday I was able to participate in an event called “Arty Babies”, which takes place in the childrens library. It is a fortnightly baby group in which the babies get to gain new knowledge and experience through song, play and sensory activities. The themes on Tuesday were animals and colours. First I got to help by organizing the toys and fabrics that are being used in the session. While doing that I got to see the wide variety of resources that are being offered. At half past ten the parents and their babies arrived. We started with an introduction round through the “Hello song”. After the introduction the babies got to know different animals in form of a changed version of “The little brown bear”, in which they did not only listen to the story but also got to see and feel the animals by using plushies. Afterwards they got to know different colours through the use of fabrics and personalised songs. In addition to that the parents got the chance to communicate to each other whilst having tea and biscuits.
I really enjoyed being able to experience the event and seeing how the babies learn through different activities that are being held by the passionate staff and volunteers. All in all I would recommend this event to all parents who have babies of all ages.
