I am a student from Paderborn who is working in the Bolton Libraries, Archives and Museum for a week to gain work experience abroad. I am here to inform you about my experience working there and events that take place in the Libraries, Archives and Museum.
Wednesday, the 14th of March 2018:
On Wednesday morning I worked in the History Centre where I got the chance to read old court records from the 1850s and write down the main information. It was exciting to see the different offences and punishments at that time. Afterwards I was able to proof read newspapers that were on film for later use. They are put on film for preservation and if you are looking for old newspapers you can find them in the History Center.
In the afternoon I was able to participate in an event called “Silver screenings”, in which a movie is being shown for the public free of charge. We showed a movie called “Abdul and Victoria” in the Central Library Lecture Theatre. First I helped to sell refreshments such as tea and biscuits. Afterwards I got to see the movie to make sure, that everything was working properly. There was a very cozy atmosphere and everyone enjoyed the movie and left with smiles on their faces.
Besides the “Silver screenings” there are also family events where zou can watch a movie with your children such as LEGO Ninjago, the Emoji movie and many more. If you want you can come for a nice movie experience in a cozy setting.
