I am a student from Paderborn who is working in the Bolton Libraries, Archives and Museum for a week to gain work experience abroad. I am here to inform you about my experience working there and events that take place in the Libraries, Archives and Museum.
Friday, the 16th of March 2018:
On Friday morning I was able to take part in the “toddler tales” session that is taking place in the children’s library. Toddler tales is a weekly session, where stories are being read, nursery rhymes sung and arts and crafts made. This weeks theme was prince and princesses in honour of the Shakespeare week. First I helped set up the arts and crafts, where the children were able to make their own crown. After that at about 11 o’clock the children and their parents came. The children were able to dress up as a prince or a princess with costumes provided by the library and the session began with the “Hello” song. Afterwards we read a story called “Ten little princesses” and sang nursery rhymes related to the royal theme. After a lot of reading and singing, which was a lot of fun, the children were all able to make their own crowns. I really liked working with the children and I was able to dress up as a princess as well, which was pretty nice.
In the afternoon I helped to prepare the open library space for the “Raise the roof” event on Saturday. The event was about using the open space that is there after the restoration of the glass ceiling by making a lot of noise in form of bands and the children were also able to make arts and crafts.
